Caring for Your Baby’s Teeth

Baby teeth, also known as primary teeth or milk teeth, are very important for a child’s overall health and development. Here are some tips for taking care of your child’s baby teeth:

  1. Start cleaning your baby’s teeth as soon as they appear. You can use a clean, damp cloth or a soft-bristled toothbrush designed for infants.
  2. Use a tiny smear of fluoride toothpaste on the toothbrush when your child is between 6 months and 3 years of age. After age 3, use a pea-sized amount of fluoride toothpaste.
  3. Make sure your child brushes their teeth twice a day, especially before bedtime.
  4. Help your child floss their teeth once a day when their teeth start touching each other.
  5. Encourage your child to drink water instead of sugary drinks, which can lead to tooth decay.
  6. Limit the amount of sugary snacks your child eats, and make sure they eat a balanced diet that includes plenty of fruits and vegetables.
  7. Take your child to the dentist for regular checkups starting at age 1. The dentist can check for cavities and other problems, and can also provide advice on how to care for your child’s teeth.

By following these tips, you can help your child maintain healthy baby teeth and set them up for a lifetime of good oral health.
